Time Team: Basing House, one of the biggest and grandest houses in Tudor England. It was visited by Henry the Eighth and Elizabeth the First, and most famously was under siege for two years during the Civil War until it was finally destroyed by Cromwell in 1645. But apart from what remains today is there more of the great house still waiting to be discovered? Is there any evidence of the battles that took place here, and what happened to the family after the Civil War? Did they ,as many local people believe, build another great mansion in a field nearby?
